Categories are the groups your menu items or products belong to. Learn how to create new categories, map items to existing categories, change category status, add images, and manage tax rates.

Category List Screen

When using the GRUBBRR Portal, you can make changes on the company or location level.

On the company level, categories can be created and enabled for all or some of the locations. On the location level, categories can be created for that specific location.

To reach the category list screen:

    • Pick a level based on how you wish to create your menu
  2. Select 'Menu' from the left sidebar menu

Managing Categories

From this page, you can create, edit, clone, and archive categories. You can also assign category-specific tax rates and upload category images.

You can edit a category by selecting the gear icon under the 'Settings' icon. This will allow you to make changes to the category detail screen. For more information on the category detail screen view the 'Creating Categories' section.

You can change category status by toggling the switch underneath the 'Status' column on the category list screen.

Cloning a category allows you to create a category using the same settings as your cloned modifier with any necessary changes. To clone a category, select the first icon (overlapping boxes on a black background) under the 'Action' column.

To manage item images, select the second icon (landscape on a blue background) under the 'Action' column. From here you can upload item images or swap out existing ones. Only one item image can be active at a time.

To archive a category, select the third icon (box on a black background) under the 'Action' column. An archived category will not appear in your menu and will be moved into the 'Archive' of your item list.

To view your archive, select 'Archive' in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. From here you can un-archive categories by selecting the same icon once again.

There are some cases in which you may want to have a separate tax set for a category (i.e.: alcohol). If you want to set category-specific taxes, you will have to be viewing your categories at a location level.

Select the 'Tax' icon (percentage sign on a blue background) in the 'Action' column. From here you can select a different tax group for that specific category.

Category Tree View

To view your current category structure you can select 'Tree View' from the upper right-hand corner of the screen. This will show you what categories are nested under other categories (subcategories).

Category Management: Disable Category vs. Show on Kiosk/Pos/Online Order

On the Update Category page, there are three flags that can be toggled on or off as needed. As their names imply, the Show on Kiosk/Pos/Online Order flags allow us to control where in the GRUBBRR ecosystem a category will be displayed when its status is set to active. If you use Loyalty functions on your kiosk, you can even set some categories to only show to loyalty customers. This helpful function makes it possible to offer kiosk-only categories or to pre-build a new category in the GRUBBRR Portal without having it show up on your kiosk before you're ready to start offering it to your guests.
